Meeting Up and Coming Chefs

Last week I had the pleasure of meeting 2 awesome Chefs at an event sponsored by Slick Greedy. Slick Greedy are a culinary conglomerate who sponsors events highlighting upcoming African American Chefs in Atlanta. During the event the chef prepares samples of there food while food enthusiasts ask the chefs questions, talk about their food and just getting to know the personally. The Eat and Greet event overall was great. Very intimate homey environment, sort of like a big family dinner. I will be discussing the chefs and their foods below.

Chef Tay (www.instragram.com/goodeatz_atl)

Chef Tay is a is based in Atlanta and cook just about anything from vegan, vegetarian, seafood and everything in between. During the event chef Tay prepared a few dishes, I tried the salad topped with Salmon and Seafood Macaroni.

undefinedI know I am on the verge towards veganism but I just had to highlight the Seafood Mac and Cheese. This had to be one of the best Mac and Cheese I ever had. It was cheesy, full of flavor, full of seafood, and decadent. It was sooo delicious that I had to steal seconds!!! I would highly recommend her food, you will not disappointed!

Chef Kristis (www.instagram.com/kristis_cobbler)

Chef Kristis grew up with severe food allergies which prompt into cooking vegan food. Chef is based in Atlanta, Ga specializing in vegan desserts, she is best known for her vegan cobblers ( who knew cobblers can be vegan).

undefinedSo I tried two of Chef Kristis’ mini cobblers, strawberry and blackberry. I do have to admit that I am not much of a sweets person but the cobblers where delicious. What I love most about the mini cobblers is that they were not dense, the ingredients were simple and fresh.

They are two awesome Chefs and highly recommend you try their foods. You can place an order through Instagram by DM. Please support, you will not regret it ;).

Is the Impossible Burger Really Impossible?

So last night I went on a date to a bar located in Atlanta, Ga called The Glenwood. It is a quaint little bar in the heart of EAV ( East Atlanta Village). There is not any options if you do not eat chicken or beef ( I am a pescatarian). The only vegetarian options were the beyond burger and the impossible burger ( I thought there were one in the same but apparently now). I heard so much hype for the impossible so I that was my pick. When it came out it looks like a regular beef patty. The first bite blow me away, it taste like beef. I was very confused and flagged down the waitress to make sure that the patty was meatless and assured me that is was. This tastes exactly like a beef burger it is unbelievable. Overall the burger was good ( a little dry ) and would definitely have again. If you get a chance I highly recommend you try the impossible burger. For those of you who are wondering the burger was the best part of the date. 😉

Mangos Caribbean Resturant

Mangos Caribbean Restaurant is located in the heart of downtown Atlanta, Ga. There known for serving authentic Caribbean food ( I would say leading more towards Jamaican) and very popular among college students, Georgia State University is literally down the street. I had Mangos years ago and their food was amazing, I remembered having the Oxtails ( when I ate meat) it was tender and Delicious. My roommate and I decided to get some lunch from Mangos the other day. Here was my food experience!!!

Kingfish

I ordered the Kingfish, the entree came with 3 sides: rice, cabbage and plaintains. The fish is fried and you can choose one of 5 sauces to have on the fish : escoveitch (pepper sauce), steam, brown stew, curry or butter sauce; I chose escoveitch sauce. So we ordered our food to go ( I had to wait 20 minutes for my food) and brought it back to the house. First of all the fish was slightly overcooked, it was chewy but still edible. What saved the fish was the escoveitch sauce. The sauce is very spicy and but still has great flavor( I could taste vinegar, salt, pepper etc). If you can not take heat I recommend not getting the sauce because it will slap the shit out of you ( literally). As for the sides the rice was under cooked ( a little firm in the middle) but both the cabbage and plantains were good enough. Overall I am very disappointed in the meal since the main components of the entree ( fish and rice) were not cooked perfectly, especially since I had to wait 20 minutes. I do not know what happened today.

In case you wanted to know my roommate got the chicken with brown stew with rice, cabbage and plantains as sides and she loved everything. So it was only my food they messed up :(.
